Did You Know That Too Much Thinking Can Make You Gain weight
According to a new study, carried out at University of Quebec, Canada, too much thinking causes people to gain weight. The research team discovered that the stress of thinking provoked the need for more calories in heavy thinkers. The study featured 14 students who were asked to perform tasks such as simply rest in a sitting position, read and summarize a text or do a computer based memory, attention and vigilance test. After practicing each activity for 45 minutes , the students were asked to eat as much as they would like to from a buffet.
It had been previously discovered that people need just three more calories for an intellectual work session than the body requires for a resting period. Nevertheless, all the students instantly chose foods with more calories, therefore consumed 203 more calories after the text summarizing task and 253 more calories after the computer based test.
However, intellectual work is the reason for more significant fluctuation in glucose and insulin levels compared to rest periods as the study results have shown. The main assumption is that these fluctuations occur because of the stress intellectual work causes and people tend to overeat after such stressful periods. As people in industrialized countries have mostly jobs that require intellectual work, specialist think that risk of people becoming overweight should not be ignored.
